As we approach the end of 2024, the Sgema team is pleased to announce that SOS Children’s Villages will be our charity of the year in 2025. This coming year, our focus will be on supporting SOS Children’s Villages’ vital work in Palestine.
The ongoing conflict in the region has had a devastating impact on children and families, causing widespread displacement, trauma, and loss of basic resources. SOS Children’s Villages is on the ground across Palestine (both in the Gaza Strip and West Bank) delivering urgent support where it is needed most.
Through supporting the Emergency Fund the Sgema team is seeking to support SOS Children’s Villages work on the ground in providing:
- Swift, life-saving action: the support enables SOS Children’s Villages to respond immediately to the emergency, providing urgent care and protection where it’s needed most.
- Support for the most at risk children: the Emergency Fund prioritises children without parental care, and those at risk of losing it, ensuring they receive essential help during crises.
- Building long-term resilience: beyond immediate relief, donations help children, families and communities recovering and preparing for future challenges, fostering lasting stability.
Along with providing direct humanitarian support to the most affected families and separated children to avoid further family separation, funding also ensures emergency care services for unaccompanied or separated children, including identification, registration, and placement in safe and nurturing environments.
Wider work includes Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), particularly for children and caregivers, to help them cope with trauma and emotional distress. The organisation also provides financial support to families facing difficulties, including female-headed households and youth.
Commenting on the announcement Sgema Director, Meilyr Ceredig said:
“After supporting the good work done by SOS Children’s Villages in Rafah over the past few years – now safely relocated to SOS Children’s Villages Bethlehem – I’m confident that Sgema’s wider fundraising drive for SOS Children’s Villages in 2025 will be well spent on the ground where it is needed most.
“Crucially, SOS Children’s Villages donations address both immediate needs and long-term recovery. They build resilience and create lasting change for those who need it most.”
Over the coming weeks, we will announce our first fundraising activities to support our 2025 Charity of the Year. Stay tuned for updates on how you can join us in supporting this worthwhile cause.
